Women’s voices and achievements are underrepresented across martial art-related media and literary channels. For this call, I am interested in publishing essays on this blogsite that share personal experiences, perspectives, and reflections on martial arts that are written by women (cis or binary) and transwomen.

Topic suggestions for your essay (but not limited to):

-Philosophical aspect

Technical analysis

-Martial art knowledge

Memorable experience

-Personal achievement

Woman martial artist you appreciate

Inequality observed or critical reflection

Personal challenge or issue

Something you value about your martial art

Essays should be written in English, include an original title, and be up to 1500 words in length. I am interested in essays that are original and express your voice. The essays do not need to be formatted in any particular way and I can provide writing support. The texts will be formatted and proofread before being published on this blogsite.

The final proof will be sent to you for your approval before it is published on this blogsite. You will be able to withdraw your essay or delete your published essay from this blogsite at any stage.

A personal photograph and 100 word bio can also be included if you wish, or you can choose to remain anonymous. Please be mindful that I will not publish essays that intentionally malign the reputation of any person or organisation. A disclosure statement will be added to your essay.

The ‘Guest Essay’ series is popular and each essay has received between 500-1000 reads each. Click on this LINK to read previous essays for free. I will reply to your submission within a week of receiving it. If this sounds like an exciting opportunity please send your essay in a Word document before 30 September 2023 to my email address:

I look forward to reading about your experiences, reflections, and perspectives!
